Ever wonder why some people can make decisions that matter to them while others seem crippled and disabled? Simon Sinek to the... Well, Simon Sinek has a few of the answers. He discusses the "Golden Circle" and what it includes. First, there's the WHY - essentially why you do what you do and what you believe. And then there is the HOW - the presentation of this idea that makes it unique. Secondly, the WHAT - your daily discipline to get you where you need to go.
So I am going to say one thing here and I saw this in a Kumar Rocket video by Kotter titled "The Heart of Change. He tells us how the way we emote often decides the course our decision is to take, more than logistics! We can relate to acting emotionally right? But as always, it's not necessarily the best way to actually make a selection. Even so, it's something to consider.
In Kotter's video "Leading Change: Establish a Sense of Urgency" he also highlights the importance of urgency. It requires that we become clear about what it is that we are up against and recognize the fervor for change. We have a job to do as educators and it is important that we know exactly our mission the WHY of our mission, and how we approach each day in the classroom. Sure, we have to be more mindful of what it is that we teach them, but we even need to dive deeper and take care of how we deliver this educational content.
Sinek and Kotter have some truly cool ideas that could help us in many arenas, not just education. If we do just that, we can find out what we want and determine a path to get there.
