The power of words

Psychology and other fields of knowledge have suggested that the power of language goes beyond emotions and can affect the way people perceive the world. In certain cases, changing just one word can even affect whether people favor one decision over another. Educational psychologists, learning theorists, instructional designers, educators, and many more learning professionals refer to Bloom's Taxonomy of Learning, which analyzes learning from three domains: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. The taxonomy provides different levels of learning objectives divided by complexity. Only after a student masters one level of learning objectives through formative assessments, remedial activities, and other enrichment activities can she move to the next level (Guskey, 2005). What does the power of the word mean to me? Words have the power to create and/or destroy. They can be used to build people up or tear them down. They can inspire hope or generate fear. The right words said at the right time can improve a person's life, while the wrong words said at the wrong time can cause irreparable harm
