Embracing the Change!

In today's world, students need 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, communication, creativity, problem-solving, perseverance, collaboration, information and digital literacy, global awareness, and innovation skills. Schools must integrate these skills into their curriculum to prepare students for success.

The use of technology in the classroom is very important nowadays. But it can be difficult for some teachers, especially if they are not used to it. The education of the last century was traditionalist, totally passive, focused on the teacher and the simple acquisition of knowledge. Today, we find ourselves in a different educational panorama and with different educational needs.

According to Diana Rhoten, engaging students in their learning by providing them with the tools and skills to reshape content will allow them to go from simple learners to creators and producers of their knowledge. Active learning will spark students' curiosity, and they will naturally begin to ask questions about the content.

I agree with Nichole Pinkard that children are not born digitally native. They are being influenced by an adult who exposes and inspires them. I hope to impact my students by creating a blended classroom environment and assignments or projects that require them to be digitally competent.

If you want to use technology in class, first, try it yourself to see what happens. Then, ask your students what they think about it. Keep your parents informed about technology and how it helps. Make things more fun with online games and interactive lessons. Teach your fellow teachers how to use technology like a pro. And do not forget to teach your students how to be innovative and responsible with digital media.

The education and classroom systems we have today were created over a century ago when technology weren’t available. Change is difficult, especially when changing a system that has been in place for more than a century. It is up to us to be agents of change and begin to act in our environment and motivate others to follow us.
